The start of June sees the beginning of Summer and the annual celebration of carers in Carers' Week, from 5-11 June. When I popped in to the RomDag event in the Crosfield Hall the week before last, to talk to some of the organisations providing help and support to those living with dementia, I was struck that often it is their loved ones and carers who are shouldering the biggest strain. There are a number of events in Parliament to mark Carers' Week next week.
This weekend sees the launch of the 21st Hampshire Food Festival, which will see a programme of events across the County throughout the Summer. I recently met Clare Scheckter of Laverstoke Park Farm in the North of the County who was talking to me about the incredible mozzarella they make there. Food and drink businesses make a significant contribution to the local economy, as well as being fantastic quality and lower in food miles and therefore environmental impact. So I am very much looking forward to attending some of the events.
It is also the season of village fetes, and there is nothing I enjoy quite so much as a sunny afternoon at many of the fetes we have in this area. This weekend is West Dean Fete, which I hope to get to, provided I first have finished the shed painting I started as my Bank Holiday project last weekend, sadly I am very slow at painting.
