Last week I visited Solent University to hear about their TEF 2023 Gold Rating and the excellent work the University does supporting students and increasing their employability chances post university.
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) which aims to encourage higher education providers to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care about the most: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.
The TEF does this by assessing and rating universities and colleges for excellence above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards.
Universities and colleges that take part in the TEF receive an overall rating as well as two underpinning ratings – one for the student experience and one for student outcomes.
The ratings reflect the extent to which a university or college delivers an excellent experience and outcomes for its mix of undergraduate students and across the range of its undergraduate courses and subjects. Last year Solent was awarded a Gold Rating, and is rightly proud of its achievement.
Additionally I visited the Maritime School and heard about the role Solent plays as the world’s leading university for maritime students. The University is rightly proud of that reputation and has a range of facilities, including a state of the art simulator which will allow you to navigate a craft in and out of pretty much any port in the world. That is in addition to the lake at Timbsury where pilots learn some of their practical skills, and the centre at Warsash.
