As Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, my role requires me to remain politically neutral.
However, I believe it is vital to engage with the issues that matter most to my constituents, and so, during last week's Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, I took the opportunity to visit and speak to several charities that are important to residents.
These included the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Marie Curie, Young Lives vs Cancer, Dementia UK, and Guide Dogs, among others. Hearing directly from these organisations about the challenges they face and the essential work they do was both insightful and valuable.
I also spoke with LBC about a number of key issues affecting our constituency. We discussed water service efficiency, which remains a concern for many local residents, particularly when services fall below expectations. Another important topic was the security of Members of Parliament, an issue that has gained increasing prominence in recent times.
