The celebrations across the whole area for last week’s Jubilee looked fantastic, and much excitement that Princess Beatrice retweeted a photograph of the packed Hundred from Thursday. Romsey really did put its best foot forward for a great celebration.
This week in Parliament I have been dealing with the small matter of a confidence motion, hosted an event for the John Lewis Partnership on parental leave and a conference on eye health, cleverly titled, “The Eyes Have It”. I also attended an event on sustainable fashion in Downing Street, that caused some excitement me being back in there, whilst proudly wearing a pre-loved dress. We do need to make re-using, recycling and up-cycling clothes far more the norm, to counteract the impact of millions of tonnes of textiles going to landfill every year.
I am hoping to also be called to speak in a debate on the menopause this week, as well as having raised endometriosis care in the Chamber on Wednesday. We are still waiting for the announcement of the Women’s Health Ambassador, and it is crucial we get a real champion in place to take forward all the issues that have been left on the backburner by successive Governments.
On Friday I am headed to BAE systems at Portsmouth Naval Base to hear about the work they do on diversity and inclusion, as well as a visit to the Rangers in Eastleigh. Both are a bit off patch, but I am really looking forward to catching up with the Rangers, I did so many visits to the Guides during lockdown, but over zoom, so it is great to be going in person.
