This weekend RomDag are holding another information day in the Crosfield Hall, for those living with dementia and their family and carers. Last year’s event was so informative and helpful to many constituents. This month is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a chance to highlight the importance of us all understanding a bit more about dementia.
In Parliament I was pleased to have a young woman, Estelle, shadowing me as part of Plan UK’s “Girl’s Takeover”. Not only did she get to go to PMQs but she attended a whole series of meetings and events with me, including with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. A cross party group of MPs is trying to make sure the forthcoming Victims and Prisoners Bill has the right measures in place to tackle the impact of crimes like stalking, and Wednesday’s meeting was an incredibly moving opportunity to hear from victims.
I also had a chance to visit the #YourHeartMatters Bus, as part of Herat Valve Disease Awareness Week. Whilst my heart got a clean bill of health many do not, and it was great to hear about the massive strides forward in treatment. The surgeon I spoke to was explaining to me the big advantages of TAVI procedures instead of open heart surgery, and how that has massively improved recovery times for the over 80s.
