It was a privilege this week to play a part in the annual service at Westminster Abbey when a torch is lit at the tomb of the Unknown Warrior by the Dean of Westminster. The British Torch of Remembrance then is transported as part of a pilgrimage of Remembrance to key ceremonies in Belgium. Alongside the Belgian Defence Attaché I lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Warrior, the first of a number of wreaths I will lay over the coming days.
I have always remarked the Romsey does the annual Remembrance events with enormous pride and dignity. We are, of course, indebted to the Royal British Legion who organise the events so well, but also to the people of Romsey who attend in such enormous numbers, regardless of the weather. This year there is one of the largest military attendances for some years expected.
But ahead of the weekend's events I am still celebrating Parliament Week with a visit to a local primary school and a Brownie pack on Thursday. I always love doing these question and answer sessions, and sometimes some brilliant mock parliaments. This year I have done more Parliament Week events than ever before, and as a result been awarded a number of Brownie, Cub and Guide badges!
