The last seven days have seen me hold surgeries in Swaythling, Romsey and Leckford, the final one being in the glorious sunshine at Leckford Farm Shop. It has been lovely to be out and about in the constituency, and last weekend was the return of Trout N About in Stockbridge, a great opportunity to discover some brilliant local producers. It looked very much like there was a record attendance, and a chance to stock up on brownies, gin, local honey etc
It was also a chance to catch up with the Stockbridge support group for Ukrainian refugees and their host families. There has been som really important work going on locally and nationally to find a way forward for those on sponsored visas who are coming to the end of their 6 month period with their hosts. Some will be able to stay on in their current homes, but there is a need to find suitable long term accommodation, and various initiatives are currently being explored.
I have seen some phenomenal work going on to support the families here during the war in Ukraine. It has also been a real privilege to meet some of the local Ukrainian families. There are still many initiatives designed to help, including fund raising this weekend at Aura Hair Design in Church Street and Paultons Park providing free tickets for Ukrainian families. I have been very grateful to the various local support groups who over the last week have provided me with some helpful advice and information, which has been much appreciated.
