Today in Parliament we marked Black History Month with a debate in the main chamber. I used it as an opportunity to talk about the lived experience of my constituent Paul Williams, who is such a champion for inclusion and diversity in education. Paul experienced racism when playing professional football, and is determined to make sure that young black people today do not experience the same things he did growing up. To hear him speak is really inspiring, he does it with such passion.
It is absolutely right that we celebrate Black History Month, but in our schools it should not just be in history and it should not just be one month, we need to embed black culture across our curriculum.
