Yesterday in the House of Commons I asked the Schools Minister about preparations for next year’s GCSE exams. Fortuitously, ahead of Oral Questions today, a Written Statement came out confirming that exams would go ahead, but we still need to know further detail about how they may be changed. I am conscious that this year’s Year 11 have lost many months of teaching, and there may yet be further disruption. It is crucial that these students are given every opportunity to demonstrate their true ability and are not hamstrung by too rigid an exam syllabus.
