Caroline Nokes has joined the 10for10 challenge to help get fit, and raise money for local charities across the country.
The COVID -19 pandemic has presented serious challenges for charities of all sizes where they have been unable to organise their usual fundraising activities. Lockdown has been difficult with many people having prolonged social isolation, which has had effects on people’s mental and physical health.
The 10for10 challenge encourages people across the country to get fit with their own personal fitness challenge – such as walking 10,000 steps, running 10k, or cycling 10 miles. Participants are then asked to donate or raise at least £10 for a local charity of their choice, and nominate three friends to take part too.
The initiative was set up by Guy Opperman, the Member of Parliament for Hexham, to mark 10 years since he was diagnosed with a brain tumour after collapsing in the House of Commons. Following emergency surgery, the MP made a full recovery, but now wants to do more to support the charities who supported him through a difficult time.
The 10for10 challenge will run between March 8th – 26th April and Caroline is supporting .

‘’I am delighted Caroline is participating in the 10for10 challenge, raising money for Jane Scarth House by running 10km 10 times.
The lockdown has been tough for us all – especially with the winter weather. The 10for10 challenge aims to help us all get fit, and raise some money for our fantastic local charities across the UK.
We are calling for as many people to take part as possible to support charities closest to people’s hearts and encourage the vital role exercise can play in dealing with mental and physical health’’.

‘’Last summer I was blown away by Rachel Cardy’s determination to raise funds for Jane Scarth House through the Staying Strong initiative. She walked over 1000 miles in the first lockdown and raised £1400, she even took me along with her several times. Her commitment has seen her carry on walking, and encouraging others to do the same, giving them motivation and diet and fitness tips along the way. So I want to add to her contribution by running 10km 10 times for Jane Scarth House. It is a great local charity and I know the pandemic will have hit their usual fundraising efforts.
I started 2021 determined to improve my fitness and after having completed Couch to 5k I was looking for something more challenging. So Guy asking me to take part in 10for10 came at exactly the right time. This is a fantastic way to see a purpose to all my slightly feeble running efforts, I am raising money for a great charity, getting much fitter than I have been in years and nominating friends and family to also take part with a fitness challenge of their own. Anyone can take part in 10for10 and can sign up at 10for10.uk
