October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, Menopause Awareness Month and includes World Mental Health Day, Baby Loss Awareness Week and International Day of the Girl. Whilst I appreciate mental health affects both men and women, there is much more openness from women to talk about their mental health than men. So I could not help but notice the female bias of awareness this month, and wanted to take the opportunity to focus on a condition that impacts men.
The week before last the Romsey Male Voice Choir concert was in aid of Prostate Cancer, and many of those present (both in the audience and the choir itself) were wearing the little Prostate Cancer UK man badge. There are currently 14,000 men in the UK living with undiagnosed prostate cancer, and it is crucial the new Health Secretary delivers on the 10 year cancer plan.
There is quite a lot the new Health Secretary needs to deliver on, not least her commitment on Doctors and Dentists. I am very conscious that it is near on impossible to get an NHS dentist appointment in Romsey at the moment, and am pushing the Health Secretary for more detail on her 4 priorities.
