I was really pleased to be able to attend the event in Parliament last week with the High Seas Alliance and Great Blue Ocean to talk about the Global Ocean Treaty. Several constituents asked me to attend and have since been in touch asking about whether the primary legislation required to ratify the Treaty will be included in next week's King's Speech. I do not yet know the answer to that - but have contacted the Foreign Secretary to impress upon him the importance that this Treaty is ratified by the UK.
The agreement of the Global Ocean Treaty marks one of the greatest conservation victories in history and offers a lifeline to the ocean. The UK played a key role in supporting its agreement and must lead the way in driving its ratification without delay.
