Every year Alcohol Change UK run their Dry January campaign, encouraging people to give up alcohol for the whole of the month, enabling them to reset their relationship with alcohol. This year an estimated 8.5 million people (including me) are going alcohol free for January. There is a great app which gives support and encouragement and lots of tips on substitutes.
This week they were in Parliament with information and advice for MPs, as to how we can best be part of the campaign, and signposting us to advice for constituents. There was also a fabulous alcohol free bar, where we could sample alcohol free cocktails, sparkling wine and beer.
By taking a month off alcohol people can lower their blood pressure, cholesterol and their diabetes risk. And by stopping drinking you also reduce the calories that come with it, with 54% of participants losing weight as well. Although I appear to have substituted wine with chocolate this month!
